ShareTweetWhatsAppThe highly anticipated World Poker Tour (WPT) Vietnam Passport to the World Championship, scheduled to take place from May 14 to 27, 2024, has been abruptly cancelled due to technical reasons, leaving poker enthusiasts surprised and disappointed.

Crown Poker Club, the host venue, issued an emergency notice citing “technical reasons and the best intentions for all athletes” as the cause for the cancellation. This unexpected turn of events is a blow to the poker community, as the series promised ten packages to the third annual festivities in Las Vegas and a lucrative prize pool exceeding VN₫ 50 Billion (~$2 Million).

Hanoi, the vibrant capital of Vietnam, has recently emerged as a bustling hub for international poker events. Last October’s WPT Vietnam Passport series was a resounding success, with over VN₫ 74.8 Billion (~$3 Million) awarded throughout the ten-day festival. Indian players particularly shone, securing 48 cash finishes and three WPT trophies, with notable victories by Sriharsha Doddapaneni, Sameer Agarwal, and Meherzad Munsaf.

This unfortunate cancellation marks the second poker festival in Hanoi to be abruptly removed from the calendar in recent weeks and the third since December. In April, the Asian Poker Festival’s Hanoi Spring Series met a similar fate due to licensing issues and technical problems stemming from the termination of its partnership with the Top Joy Poker Tour.

Despite this setback, poker enthusiasts can still look forward to the upcoming U Series of Poker, scheduled to take place at Crown Poker Club from May 29 to June 10. This highly anticipated event boasts VN₫ 60 Billion (~USD 2.36 Million) in prizes, featuring 65 trophy events over the 13-day festival. It marks the first international poker event of the year to be held in Hanoi, offering players an exciting opportunity to showcase their skills and compete for lucrative rewards.
